Class of january 8th, 2013 - POEM: "The House of Happiness" - Silvia Cristina de Oliveira.

Class of Tuesday, January 8, 2013.

Today, the rain that fell in the afternoon scared the students away.
They were coming slowly.
We began the class with 3 students, and came to ten students.

Today we read and studied four poems from the book "Mixing Words", of the Brazilian poetess Silvia Cristina de Oliveira.

Researching on her in the internet, I’ve found that this talented poetess is paraplegic, and that she sells her books at intersections of traffic in São Paulo. A real life example of talent, courage, drive and victory.

In class, Haitians and African students read four poems by this wonderful poetess, and they also read aloud the words of the preface, author, and dedication.

Poems that were read:
“The Rose and the Woman”
“Woman: Life”
“Children” and
“The House of Happiness”.

Dedication of the book:
"When I met you,
I thought I’ve met a colleague
But, actually,
I’ve met a friend.
And friends, are rare in life.
And you, is a rarity
In my life.
-To A.A.B. "

Students asked what was "rare". They were happy to learn, and agreed with me, that a true friend is, indeed, a rare jewel.

They’ve also loved the poem "The House of Happiness."
It remembers them of the Arsenal da Esperança, a charity home that welcomes every day, 1200 homeless men from the streets.

It also offers them courses in literacy, 1st and 2nd degree, vocational courses (baker, confectioner, Mason and bookbinder), food to eat, hot shower and a bed to sleep.

Most importantly, it also offers a helping hand, leading them to rediscover the ability to dream again, gives them courage, and hope to resume their lives.

God saves Mr. Ernesto Olivero, founder of this house, as well as the administrators of the house: Mr. Gianfranco, Simone Berardi, Marco Vitale, Ivan, Lorezo Nachelli and all the huge team working there. Thank you.

THE HOUSE OF HAPPINESS
(Poet: Silvia Cristina de Oliveira)

"In the house of happiness,
Grief has no time.
Only joy,
Everyone will have to laugh
Can never cry.
And, to dispel the sorrows of the neighborhood,
Everyone will have to sing and love each other.
No arguments. It will not be allowed.
But you only live like this in dreams
In fantasies ...
Because dreaming is not prohibited yet
And, just like that
The house of happiness
Might exist.”
