THE GREATNESS COMES.

You know what he was?

He was a streetcar motorner, first. 
Then, was a farmer. 
Then, he had a lemon ranch.

It was the poorest lemon ranch in California, I can assure you...

He sold it, before they found oil there.

Then, he was grocer.

And he was a great man, because he DID HIS JOB.

And every job counts!

Up to the tail, regardless of what happens.


Nobody will ever write a book, probably, about my mother ...

Well, I guess all of you could say this about your mother...

My mother was a saint.

When I think of her, with two boys dying of tuberculosis,
and she seeing each of them die ...  and when they die... 

(Sigh)

Yes, she will have no books written about her ... But, she was a saint.


Now, however, we look to the future,
and I remember something that Theodore Roosevelt wrote,
when his first wife died, in his twenties...

He thought the light was gone from his life, forever ...

But he went on. And not only he became president, but as an ex-president, 
He served his country, always in the arena.
Tempestous, strong. 
Sometimes right, sometimes wrong. 
But, he was a man!

And as I leave, I think this is an example all of us should remember.

Sometimes we think that
When things don't happen,
or don't go the right way...

When someone dear to us dies,
or when we lose an election,
or when we suffer a defeat

That All is ended...

Not true!

It is only a beginning, always!

In the Beginning: Causes of Impunity In the Land of Vera Cruz



"Brazil is the only country in the world where racial amalgamation was done without
great restrictions.

Considered for a long time by the settlers as a place of temporary stay, 
in its environment all situations were admissible, and a form of tolerance has developed, albeit on negative bases.

The white man established close relations with the black man, including racial mix,
and, away from the metropolis, such facts were part of ordinary events.

The Lusitan breed, although wearing the size of lords, has not stopped to overflow its affectivity,
to the degree of its characteristic lush, when he found the naive dedication and
humility of the captive woman. 

And if the white landlord, socially privileged by its color, came down to this intimate and loving
contact, he sealed with evident approval this yearning for intertwinning, that was also latent in the souls of black slaves and brazilian indiens.

Thus, that is how it began the formation of racial amalgamation, upon which Time itself took responsibility
of adding new elements, from all parts of the world.

THE CONSEQUENCES of such occurrences endure even today, in the carefree nature of
Brazilian people, who lives only for the moment, and passes without planning for the future, as if this land would eternally be the "Eldorado", to which no
special regard or care should be given about the future.

The European, responsible for the psychological formation of what we conventioned to call the "Brazilian race", sowed the seeds
of this careless and unaware conduct, by considering the conquered land as a place where "nothing would create roots."

The two races which stood together were unable to overcome or lead the reasoning of
white man and followed him, gently, on its footprints. 

More than racial atavism, what has influenced the most in the formation of the Brazilian collective soul was the psychological attitude of the leader of the nascent society, 
the careless and greedy European man. 

In his native land he was a Christian and a respectable man, 
but, he became different. He only saw Brazil as an inexhaustible source of profits,
luxuries and unmentionable pleasures.

This psychological distortion produced an atmosphere of INDIFFERENCE TOWARDS MORAL AND CIVIC VALUES, 
that permeate and covered the young country and society.

In the early years of its existence, the nation was fed, on its formation, by negative spiritual values. 

The settlers saw everything around them with a eagerness to get certain benefits, 
and had an ABSOLUTE OBLIVION of the notions of DISCIPLINE, HARD WORK and foresight, related to the aggrandizement of this future nationality.

Today: The Giant Finally Awakens, and Stops the Avalanche of Mud



"Really detrimental to Brazil, we repeat, has been, since the beginning of
the formation of this country, the aura of MORAL IRRESPONSABILITY, 
here deployed by the initiators of the civilization on this Land of Santa Cruz.

We can make use of a single image, in order to clarify this concept presented.

The alluvial of MORAL DEFORMATIONS, 
looking to drag along with itself the positive values
belonging to the formative years of this welcoming land, it's like a river, fed by
two different springs...

The First spring comes from a very high and elevated mountain, filled by feelings of Love, and its water is
blessed with vibrations of fraternal union.

It symbolizes this "patriotic fluidity " to which we refer previously.

This fountain is spiritually wide, high, generous and pure, and benefits everyone. 

This divine fountain of Love, keeps its waters fresh and flowing, 
because it knows that solidified water, in its stiffness, can not serve mankind.

This spring, located on the mountain of Spiritual Truths,
it's where emerges the Purest Inspirations for the guidance of the Brazilian nationality. 

On such a High Spiritual Place, there is not the smallest possibility of contamination, 
by the acidic substances of EGOCENTRISM, camouflaged under
the fatigued and exhausted expressions of old exclusivism and patriotism.

The Brazilian people, spiritually driven by an aura of benevolence toward its fellow man,
does not cling to the strict principles of a shortsighted and egocentric patriotism. 

Within its soul runs temporarily, calm and clear, the river of good will toward its neighbors,
as a result of the generosity with which GOD has bestowed this heavenly corner of Earth.

However, halfway through its Central Plateau (DF), down on its course, 
on the lowland, where the crystal river could fertilize the soil towards
an abundant harvest, 
rises a DEEP FOG OF EGO AND GREED, 
that obscures the spiritual panorama of the brazilian collectivity. 

From the nearby forest, slides a flow of debris, formed by muddy, dark and
viscous black water. 

Its origin is obscure, because no one ever dared to reach its source...

While the First spring sprouts from the Mountain of Pure Spirituality, 
the Second spring arises from a SWAMP, whose pestilence no one can bear, or resist.

And so, the humble and simple population of Brazil disseminates the Myth of the "terrifying power of Corruption".

The young spirits of this brave collective soul, 
still on their phase of spiritual adolescence, 
keep their distance from this scary forest, and HAVE TO BEAR its avalanche of debris and mud. 

Coerced by a superstitious terror, they pay involuntary homage to 
the principles implemented by the Forces of Negativity, 
which are disguised as honorable, respectable men.

Thus, the unspeakable yearnings of PETTY MATERIAL INTERESTS 
hopelessly DEFORM the patriotic feelings that could be 
extraordinarily healthy, for they emanate from 
a Higher Source of Great Purity.

We can even say that, the
commitment of this Negative Forces to use, explore and consume
the benefits of this elevated nascent, are greater because they identify the
generous potentials of its Heavenly Origin.

When THE RIGHT COSMIC TIME FINALLY COMES,
this powerful stream of Clear Water  
-which is the Collective Soul of Brazil-
WILL BECOME AWARE of its ulimited Force and Possibilities, 
They will finally RISE UP, 
and Build a strong dike 
TO STOP the dirty flood that comes

"O Brasil é o único país do mundo onde o amálgama racial se fez sem 
grande restrições. 

Considerado durante muito tempo pelos colonizadores como local de 
estadia temporária, em seu ambiente todas as situações eram admissíveis e uma forma de 
tolerância desenvolveu-se, se bem que, em bases negativas. 

O homem branco estabeleceu relações estreitas com o negro, inclusive de cruzamento racial, 
e, longe da metrópole, tais fatos eram acontecimentos normais. 

A raça lusitana, se bem que envergando o porte dos senhores, não deixou de transbordar afetividade, 
no grau exuberante que lhe é característico, quando encontrou a ingênua dedicação e humildade da mulher cativa. E se o senhor branco, o privilegiado da cor, desceu a esse contato, selou com sua aprovação evidente o anseio de irmanação latente nas almas dos seus irmãos negros e índios.

Iniciou-se assim a formação do Amálgama Racial sobre o qual o tempo se incumbiria 
de depositar elementos novos, provenientes de todas as partes do mundo.

As conseqüências de tais ocorrências perduram até hoje na índole despreocupada do 
brasileiro, que vive em função do momento que passa, sem fornecer a si mesmo 
planejamentos para o futuro, como se sua terra continuasse a ser o Eldorado ao qual nenhuma 
cooperação especial devesse ser dada com vista ao porvir. 

O europeu responsável pela formação psicológica do que convencionaremos chamar a "raça brasileira", lançou a semente 
da conduta desavisada por considerar a terra conquistada local onde "nada criaria raízes". 

As duas raças que se lhe associaram foram incapazes de ultrapassar ou liderar os raciocínios do 
homem branco e seguiram-lhe docemente as pegadas. 

Mais do que o atavismo racial, influiu 
na formação da alma brasileira a atitude psicológica do líder da sociedade nascente, o europeu 
displicente e ganancioso, que em sua terra era cristão e respeitável, mas que no Brasil só via 
uma fonte inesgotável de lucros e prazeres inconfessáveis. 

Essa distorção psicológica produziu uma atmosfera de displicência em relação aos valores morais e cívicos a impregnar todo 
jovem ser que surgia. 

Nos primeiros anos de sua existência alimentava-se na formação de 
valores espirituais negativos e via tudo o que o cercava com a ânsia de auferir vantagens, num 
esquecimento absoluto das noções de disciplina, trabalho e previsão, relacionadas com o 
engrandecimento da nacionalidade." 

Hoje: O Gigante da Fonte Pura Desperta, e Detém a Enxurrada de Lama

"Realmente prejudicial ao brasileiro, repetimos, vem sendo, desde os primórdios da 
formação de seu povo, a aura de irresponsabilidade moral aqui implantada pelos iniciadores 
da civilização na Terra de Santa Cruz.

Podemos lançar mão de uma imagem simples, a fim de aclarar os conceitos emitidos. 

O aluvião de deturpações morais, que procura arrastar consigo os valores positivos 
pertencentes ao povo em formação nessa terra acolhedora, é alimentado como um rio, por 
duas nascentes. 

A primeira brota na montanha dos sentimentos elevados e constitui a água 
abençoada das vibrações fraternas. 

Simboliza essa "fluidez patriótica" a que nos referimos. 
É generosa e pura, a todos beneficia, mantendo-se líquida por saber que a água solidificada, em 
sua rigidez, não consegue servir. 

Nessa nascente no alto da montanha das verdades espirituais, 
onde despontam as mais puras inspirações para a orientação da nacionalidade brasileira, não 
há possibilidade de contaminação pelas substâncias ácidas do egocentrismo, camuflado nas 
expressões fatigadas do patriotismo exclusivo.

O brasileiro, espiritualmente orientado pela aura de benevolência para com o próximo, 
não se apega aos princípios rígidos de um patriotismo míope e egocêntrico. Dentro da sua 
alma corre temporariamente, tranqüilo e límpido, o rio da boa-vontade para com o 
semelhante, como conseqüência da generosidade com que a vida o brindou nesse recanto 
paradisíaco do globo.

A meio caminho, porém, no Planalto Central, na baixada onde poderia esse rio fertilizar o solo em prol de 
uma abundante colheita, levanta-se um NEVOEIRO que obscurece o panorama espiritual da 
coletividade. Da floresta próxima desliza um caudal de detritos, formados de LAMA barrenta e 
viscosa. Sua origem é obscura, pois ninguém jamais ousou chegar até o seu nascedouro. 

Enquanto que a primeira nascente brota na montanha da espiritualidade pura, consta que a 
segunda surge de um pântano a cujo pestilência ninguém pode resistir.

E assim a tradição se incumbe de divulgar o mito apavorante da força insuperável do 
poder corruptor. 

Os espíritos pouco valorosos de uma alma coletiva, em fase de adolescência 
espiritual, conservam-se à distância da floresta assustadora, suportam-lhe a enxurrada de 
detritos e, coagidos por um terror supersticioso, rendem homenagem involuntária aos 
princípios implantados pela força do negativismo.

Dessa forma, os anseios inconfessáveis dos interesses mesquinhos, deturpam 
irremediavelmente os sentimentos patrióticos, que seriam extraordinariamente sadios à Humanidade,
por emanarem de uma Fonte Superior de Grande pureza. 

Podemos mesmo afirmar que maior é o 
empenho das forças negativas em se aproveitar os benefícios dessa nascente, por identificarem a 
potencialidade generosa de sua origem.

No momento em que esse fluxo de águas claras se tornar consciente de suas possibilidades, conseguirá levantar um dique para deter a enxurrada originária da floresta 
escura das manobras escusas que turvam a limpidez do leito generoso sobre o qual está destinado a correr, para o Benefício de toda a humanidade."

Para Cezar Britto, resultado da "Votação Secreta" a favor de Renan Calheiros distancia ainda mais o Senado da sociedade. 


Só uma reforma política abrangente poderá restabelecer a credibilidade, diz presidente da OAB.


O presidente nacional da Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB), Cezar Britto, afirmou que a absolvição por quebra de decoro parlamentar do senador Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), nesta quarta-feira (12/09/2007), 
"evidencia a urgência urgentíssima de uma reforma política profunda no país".



Em nota à imprensa, Britto disse que "o espírito de corpo que presidiu essa sessão do Senado, e lhe conferiu contornos de ATO CLANDESTINO, precisa ser definitivamente banido da vida pública brasileira".

O presidente da OAB afirmou ainda que "o resultado da votação, na contramão do clamor público, distancia ainda mais o Senado, instituição vital ao equilíbrio federativo, da sociedade que o provê e a que deveria representar".

Segundo Britto, "somente uma reforma política abrangente, que corrija distorções como essa da vida pública brasileira, poderá restabelecer a credibilidade e a confiança da sociedade em suas instituições". 

"Que esse triste episódio sirva para aprofundar, no meio político, essa reflexão. 

E que o corporativismo senatorial não insista em manter na presidência de uma das mais elevadas instituições republicanas alguém que se incompatibilizou com o cargo. 

Seria errar duas vezes. O país não merece isso."

"A REPUBLICAN POWER THAT HAS TURNED ITS BACK ON THE COUNTRY"

To Cezar Britto, then president of the Bar Association of Brazil (OAB), the result of the "Secret Ballot" in favor of Renan Calheiros has distanced, even further, Senate from brazilian society.


"Only a comprehensive Political Reform can restore credibility of the Senate, says the president of OAB."


The national president of the Bar Association of Brazil (OAB), Cezar Britto, said that the acquittal for breach of parliamentary decorum of Senator Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), Wednesday (12/09/2007),
"highlights the extremely urgent need for a Political Reform deep in the country".



In a press release, Britto said that "the spirit of body that presided over this session of the Senate, and gave it outlines of a Clandestine Act, which Definitely needs to be banished from Brazilian public life."

The president of the Bar Association said that 
"this vote, against the public outcry, further distances the Senate, an institution vital to the federal balance, from the society that sustains it, and that it should represent."

According to Britto, "only a comprehensive Political Reform, to correct such distortions from Brazilian public life, can restore credibility and confidence of brazilian society in their institutions."

"That this sad episode may serve to deepen, in the political millieu, this reflection.

And that Senate corporatism do not insist to keep on the presidency of one of the highest republican institutions someone who became incompatible with the office.

It would be to do wrong twice. This country (Brazil) does not deserve it. "
