Class of Thursday, january 17, 2013: Possessive pronouns

Today we had only 13 students.
We studied the possessive pronouns in Portuguese.

Student Adama Konate has noted that, in French, possessive pronouns are quite specific and individualized, while in Portuguese, they are "Globalizing” - a same pronoun can mean 3 different things.

“Meu”, in Portuguese, is used to people, objects and at the end of sentences.
In French, it’s different. "Meu" becomes "mon", "le mien" and "à moi". Each used in a different case.

Este é meu pai. "Ça c'est mon père."
Este chapéu é meu. "Ce chapeau est le mien."
Este caderno é meu. "Ce cahier est à moi."

Este é meu número de celular. Dá-me o teu.
"Ça c'est mon numero de portable. Donne-moi le tien."
