What drives a man to cross 
a vast ocean
Heading to Brazil
Leaving his wife, children and family?

The need.

And the Dream

of a better life.


My students came from
Haiti and Africa
(Mali, Guinea, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Somalia, and other countries).
HAITI: a land devastated by famine,
by poverty and the earthquake of January 2010,
that killed 200 000 people.

Africa: a vast and magnificent continent,
however, still marked by inequality,
and tribal strife and political persecution.


Men in search of a better life.

Human lives

So valuable

As all the others

In this world.


I understand you.

I can see it on your faces

I feel your pain.


So, I said to them:

"My friends,

The hardest thing you've already done:
You have left your homeland
and traveled thousands of miles
to a distant and foreign land.

Now,
is only a matter of time,
until you learn the Portuguese well
and you establish yourselves in Brazil.

For this reason,

Have force!

Have courage!


I am with you.

Me too,

I believe in the Dream."

SOBREVIVENTES - Aula de 20 Março 2013

O que leva um homem a cruzar o Oceano
rumo ao Brasil,
deixando esposa, filhos e família?

A necessidade.

O Sonho

de uma vida melhor.


Meus alunos vieram do
Haiti e da África
(Mali, Guiné, Gâmbia, Costa do Marfim, Burkina Fasso, Somália, etc.)

HAITI: uma terra devastada pela fome,
pela miséria e pelo terremoto de janeiro de 2010,
que matou 200 mil pessoas.

África: um vasto e esplendoroso continente,
contudo, ainda marcado pela desigualdade,
e por lutas tribais e perseguições políticas.

Homens em busca de uma vida melhor.

Vidas humanas
Tão valiosas
Quanto todas as outras
Deste mundo.


Eu entendo vocês.
Posso ver nos seus rostos
Eu sinto sua dor.

Porisso, disse a eles:

"Meus amigos,

O mais difícil vocês já fizeram:
Deixaram a sua Terra Natal
e viajaram milhares de quilômetros
até uma terra distante.

Agora,
é só uma questão de tempo,
até vocês aprenderem o Português
e se estabelecerem no Brasil.

Porisso,

Tenham coragem

Tenham ânimo!

Eu estou com vocês.

Eu também
Acredito no Sonho."
