Poem by Alexandre Gianechini de Araújo
A hippie soul
A wandering spirit
Investigative eye
Unusual mind
Unconventional kid
Irreverent lad
A beatnik
It was the fifties
The poor and conservative South
Life in the cities
Poverty, the slum
The plays of Eugene O'Neil
and Tennessee Williams
Made a mark on him
So, it started a raging fire
Burning deep inside of him
A desire to break away from that
To go beyond
Explore
A young man looking for answers
"Turn on, tune in, drop out!"
Remember,
It was the sixties
Little did he know that
The questions he had
Only the great sages of yesterday
Could answer...
And then, one day, the opportunity came
To write the Great American Novel
(On a cheap piece of paper)
Pulp fiction
So, Julie came and said to him:
"Now, listen to me boy
Your voice is gonna be heard
By a large, vast audience across the land
Make sure to make the most out of this
Give it your best shot!"
And so he did
On the surface, it looked just like
Printed pop culture on cheap, disposable
paper
On reality, he was
Drinking at the fountain
Of the immortal classics
He had a deep respect for the classics
The Ramayana
Confucius
I Ching
The Bible
Jeremiah
Obadiah
The prophets
Avicenna
Ziggurats
Tao Te King
(Don't underestimate your public
Raise the level)
Zen and the art of meditation
Zen and the art of horse riding
Zen and the art of archery
Where archer and bow become one
and the same
Silence in the fields
Quiet breathing
Meditation, focus
You let go the arrow
Right on target
Child tales of the forest
The Zen Buddhist Master
"Butterfly/Butterfly"
"One day, a wise man slept
And dreamed he was a butterfly. "
"When he woke up,
He didn't know
If he was a wise man dreaming to be a
butterfly
Or a butterfly
dreaming to be a sage."
To Be or Not to Be
That is the Question!
TV journalist
social columnist
Part of the System
Vic Sage
Fighting against hypocritical leaders
Merchants from the temple
Just like Dylan
So, one day,
Sage went to train
on a faraway land
with Miss Shiva &
Richard Saigon:
"I'm gonna learn
to fight
with a cripple?
I don't think so!
Where is
the nearer McDonald's?"
And Richard said:
"Oh, It's simple
Walk three days
Under the white snow
in the southwestern direction
There you should find one."
"Ok,
Nevermind"
Western direction
Two raiders aproaching
Butch Cassady
& The Sundance Kid
In the fields of the hinterland
The promissed man returned
But he got misunderstood
And was shot down
The Indian reserve
Sacred Soil
Chants of war
Fire reflected on the stones
They're polishing their hatchets
Then, the shaman made a prophecy:
"One day, two righteous men will come"
"In the air, water and land
They shall triumph.
And they will return this land
To their true owners-
The indians"
Big bussiness wanna destroy the world
And devour Nature
They don't have hearts
I know that for a fact, because
I read it on a comic book
When I was eight
And never forgot
Sun Tzu
"Favorable Terrain:
Do not Stop.
Questionable Terrain:
Stop and observe."
Chinese Red lanterns
Zen archer on a starry Night
Running on the rail
Under the torchlights
Then, time passed
1973, Oil Crisis, Algol
The head of Medusa
The evil star
Bad signs
Return to the beggining
Knights of the Middle Ages
The Order of St. Dumas
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Sword of As Real
The Noble Savage
Jean Jacques Rousseau
Diderot, D'Alambert
Cardinal Richelieu
Micah Sin
So, in the end, he did leave his message
He inspired us, and made us dream and laugh
If we went to read the Classics further
It was because of him.
Thank you, Jim.
