A CONVERSATION ABOUT AFRICA. Class of april 9th

A CONVERSATION ABOUT AFRICA

Today the class was extremely rich, fruitful and rewarding.

We had students from Haiti, Mali, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast.

The students talked about their life in Brazil and their perceptions about our country.

They also told what life was like in Africa, the history and politics in Africa.

Haitians spoke about his country, its history, Haiti's independence and the national hero Toussaint L'Ouverture.

Yesterday a new brilliant student arrived at our class: the burkinabé Sare Mathieu, 20 years old.

He spoke brilliantly about politics in Africa, and how their various governments manage the economy and production.

He also spoke about the succession of presidents and dictators, and the recent history of Burkina Faso, Congo, Mali and South Africa. Amazing!

He said his father and brothers fled from Burkina Faso due to their opposition to the current government. He himself arrived in Brazil on the 20th of February.

He also spoke of European colonialism in Africa, interventionism and its harsh consequences today.

He spoke of the recent conflicts in Mali, Libya and Syria.
"There's a lot going on behind all this ... The war is just a distraction ... While innocents die, others enrich backstage. The only motivation for these wars is profit."

Only those who live, or lived, in Africa really know what goes on there. Do not expect the media to tell you the whole truth.

I was amazed with the intelligence, knowledge and policy analysis of this boy. Incredible.

It was a pleasant surprise. I never thought I could learn so much about Africa and Haiti.

How nice it is to talk to people from around the world.
It is a very rich and enriching experience.

After the class, I went on the library and bought the Almanaque April 2013, to learn more about Africa and the various African countries.

More than Ever,
Everyday,
I'm Living and Learning.

Namaste.
-Alex.
